The 2005 NCAA champion UNC basketball team was honored at the start of the football season

It’s been 20 years already?!

At Kenan Stadium on Saturday afternoon, during the first game of the UNC football season, the 2004-2005 basketball team was celebrated. This group cut down the nets and won the national title 20 years ago, and the ceremony was held to honor them.

It seemed like only yesterday that this group, led by famous head coach Roy Williams, added another banner to the Dean Smith Center rafters. It was a nostalgic moment for UNC basketball fans. The scoreboards at Kenan Stadium played a short tribute film this afternoon as part of the celebrations. You can see it below.

Many of us remember the special events that happened during that amazing season, which we all still love to talk about. There were so many players on the team that it was a problem for the other team to match them up.

That team won so many games that it was shocking when they lost (which wasn’t often that season!).

The University of North Carolina always does a great job of letting people know how great their sports teams are. This is another example of that: the university is celebrating by getting one of the best basketball teams in UNC history back together.
