SSI checks rising – The Official List of Americans Who Will Get More Benefits

People who get SSI checks will be happy with the news this week. According to the Social Security Administration, millions of people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI) will get a new legal raise in the next few months.

This financial program is meant to help low-income adults over 65, disabled people, and children in certain financial situations by giving them monthly benefits.

These people will get more benefits thanks to a total amount of $1,100,000 that will be given out over the next three to six months. Find out more about this new payment and what you need to do to get it.

The list of Americans eligible to receive more benefits in their regular SSI checks

The SSA’s website says that this raise will only be given to 400 beneficiaries, all of whom must be unable to work because of a terminal illness. Some of the diseases that qualify are chronic heart failure, kidney disease, leukemia, and different types of cancer.

In addition, the SSA says that the recipient did not receive enough money. This is the amount of time between applying for SSI and getting approved.

The SSA will use this raise to make up for the money they haven’t paid to these beneficiaries, keeping in mind that people with these conditions don’t have much time left. The raise will show up in your monthly benefit payments in three to six months, as long as they don’t go over the maximum of $943 in 2024.

Remember that this is an extra payment for people who meet the condition we already talked about. Those who aren’t eligible for this extra cash will still get their normal income on the first of each month.

Since payroll taxes don’t pay for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), recipients get the same amount of money no matter what filing category they picked when they applied. Current rules say that people who filed as individuals will get an average of $943 a month, while people who filed as a couple will get $1,425.

Also, keep in mind that some recipients may be able to get an extra monthly payment if they meet the requirements for an essential person (EP). People who get SSI will get an extra $472 in their checks if they meet this condition.

When does the Social Security Administration deliver SSI checks?

If the first of the month doesn’t happen on a weekend, the Social Security Administration sends out SSI checks every year on November 1.

When this happens, the federal office moves the payment day to the business day before. Based on this year’s Social Security payment schedule, here are all the confirmed times for SSI recipients to receive their next payments in 2024.

SSI payments SSI payments date Advanced payment
August August 1st August 30th (September 1st)
September
October October 1st
November November 1st November 29th (December 1st)
December December 31st (January 1st)

People who get SSI did not get pay in September because the first of the month was a weekend, as you can see below. That’s why applicants got their money on August 30th. The same thing will happen in December because the first of the month falls on a weekend.

They will still get paid at the end of the month, though, since January 1 is a holiday. Remember that you can always go to your My Social Security Account to get more information about your SSI checks and other topics that have to do with Social Security.

A new way to apply for SSI checks in the US

Social Security is slowly adding more features to its online system for asking for benefits. By the end of 2025, the whole process of applying for SSI checks will be done online. At this point, most people who want to apply for SSI can only start the process online by giving a few basic information.

An SSA agent will then get in touch with them to finish the process. In the first part of the new plan, people in this group will be able to apply for another benefit first. Then, they will be able to use iClaim to fill out a shorter SSI application.

The SSA says this first part will be complete by the end of 2024. By late 2025 or early 2026, all people who apply for Supplemental Security Income, including those applying based on age, will be able to use the “iSSI” option.
