It won’t be long before the US government approves a new Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for people who get Social Security Disability Insurance.
The goal of this SSDI payment rise is to keep the recipient’s ability to buy things. Because prices of goods and services change because of inflation, Social Security changes the amount of SSDI payments every year.
COLA – Buying power of SSDI recipients
People who get SSI will get their COLA increase on December 31, 2024, but people who get Social Security Disability Insurance won’t get it until January. There were some in early January and some in late January. What you need to know about the COLA is this:
- Aids fight high inflation
- It is a way to make sure Social Security Disability Insurance recipients do not lose purchasing power
- If you get Supplemental Security Income, these benefits also increase
- The 2025 COLA increase in payments will be due effective on January 3, 8, 15, 22.
People who are already getting SSDI do not need to apply for the COLA raise. You just need to check your bank account on the day you’re due to get paid.
Discovering the First SSDI payment from Social Security and its eligibility
On January 3, the first SSDI payment will be made. Not until that moment will people who are disabled be able to enjoy their 2025 COLA boost.
It will be about 2.5% more than the cost of living. This is only a guess from the Senior Citizens League, though; Social Security will officially say what it is on October 10. If your payment is $1,000 in 2024, you could get an extra $25. If it’s twice that much, you could get $50.
January 2025 payment Schedule for SSDI
Beginning on January 3, people who started getting Disability Insurance benefits before May 1997 will get payments every month from the Social Security Administration. There will be no payment on January 3 if you are also getting SSI. In case not, here are some possible dates for payment:

- January 15: born from 11-20
- January 22: born from 21-31
