Someone from Minisink Valley High School died in an early morning crash

BLOOMINGBURG – Three people were hurt and one student from Minisink Valley High School died when the car they were in on Route 17 at Exit 114 in Bloomingburg went off the ramp and down a steep hill early Sunday morning.

Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus said the victim was 17 years old.

Details of the crash were not known right away, but Neuhaus said that the county’s emergency mental health team is ready to help.

Superintendent of Schools Brian Monahan said, “It is important for people in our school community, especially those in high school, to be able to talk about how they feel and what they are thinking.”

He told parents that they should let their kids talk about how they feel while they watch what they do and listen to what they say.

Neuhaus said that parents, kids, and teachers should know that they can call 311 for help that isn’t an emergency.

For extra help, students can also call 845-391-1000 and use text4teens.

Monahan said that all homecoming events planned for this week, like Spirit Week, the pep parade, and the Homecoming Dance, have been rescheduled out of respect for what happened.

The football game this Friday is still set to happen.
