So happy: North Carolina woman plans to buy house with $1 million win

HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — A news release from the NC Education Lottery says that Arely Mayorga Martinez of Charlotte wants to buy a house with the $1 million she won from the lottery.

She said, “We’re so happy.”

The lucky $10 Multiplier Mania ticket was bought by Martinez’s husband at the Shopton Commons BP on Steele Creek Road in Charlotte. He then brought it home for her to scratch.

She said, “I couldn’t believe what I saw.”

Martinez knew her ticket was good for a $1 million prize, so she put it somewhere safe until she could claim it.

She said, “We hid it under our mattress.”

Martinez had to make a choice when she got to the lottery offices on Thursday.

She could choose to get the win all at once or as a $50,000 payment every year for 20 years.

The $600,000 lump sum was her choice. She took home $429,003 after state and federal taxes were taken out.
