Saul Hernandez is this week's Cedar Ridge Red Wolf

Hernandez, a senior centerback for the men’s soccer team, is this week’s Cedar Ridge Red Wolf of the Week. Hernandez, who is the team captain, has helped a Cedar Ridge team that had a rough first month of the season by giving them experience.

Because Red Wolves Stadium’s track needs to be fixed, Cedar Ridge has had to play seven straight away games to start the year. Plus, their top scorer from last year, Dominic McNerney, moved to Western Alamance just two days before the first game of the season against Carrboro.

In the middle of it all, Hernandez has been a guide. He helped set up a goal that helped the Red Wolves beat Person 8-0 last week. Hernandez’s header off a corner kick with 4:17 left in regular time last year was one of the most memorable goals in team history.

It helped the team beat Western Alamance. Since the Warriors moved into the Central Conference in 2021, this was the first time the Red Wolves beat them.

Hernandez helped Cedar Ridge host a state playoff game for the first time since 2015 last year. During his time away from Cedar Ridge, Hernandez works out with Wake FC.

He will end his career as a player who helped Cedar Ridge reach new heights. Tonight is the first game of the Hillsborough Derby, and the Red Wolves will be going to Orange.
