ROCKINGHAM — When it comes to one of its yearly fundraisers, the Silvertip Hunting Club is switching things up this year.
Together with Atlantic Coast Wrestling, the club will put on a wrestling show at the National Guard Armory in Rockingham on September 28. The show will raise money for their yearly Wounded Warriors Hunt.
The club takes four soldiers chosen by the Special Forces Association on a hunting trip every year in the Norman area off of Capel Mill Road over the weekend.
Kevin Porter told the RO in the past that one reason the special forces veterans are included is that Robin Sage has been training on the shooting grounds for 30 years, long before the club was formed.
The hunt takes place from Friday to Sunday, and the soldiers are fed and given other things they need.
Most of the time, they leave with Yeti bags full of hunting-themed gifts and, if they have enough money, a gun for each person.
Four years ago, the club held a motorbike ride at the Hide-A-Way Tavern. In 2023, they raised $3,200, and the year before, they raised $4,700.
Champain is up against The Leathel Dragon James Tuner for the Jr. Heavyweight belt in one of the main events at “Battle for the Warriors.”
Champain has been wrestling since the early 1990s. He has worked for the WWE (then called WWF), ECW, and smaller regional companies.
There is also a tag team match on the show between the OG Tribe and Rockingham’s Trip Cautious with an unknown partner. Many people in the area knew Cautious from the famous tag team New Breed. But over the summer, his partner, Trey Walker, lied to him.
Walker, who is the South Atlantic States Champion right now, will be going up against Cruze Bittle, who is the Atlantic Coast Champion.
The doors open at 6 p.m. and the bell rings at 7 p.m. General admission costs $10, but kids under 8 get in for free with an adult who pays.
