The Richmond Senior High School boys’ soccer team lost their first game in Sandhills Athletic Conference play on Monday.
The Raiders lost 5-1 at Southern Lee High School, which was their seventh straight loss since winning the first game of the season.
In the first five minutes of the game, it was a 1-1 tie. But the Cavaliers scored four goals in a row to take control (8-1, 1-0 SAC).
In the fourth minute, Southern Lee scored the first goal, which put them ahead. But less than a minute later, junior forward Memphis Jacobs tied the game.
For his second goal of the season, Jacobs used his head to guide the ball into the goal. Senior player Gonzalo Gonzalez set him up.
Southern Lee took the lead 2-1 in the 10th minute, and that was the score at the break.
After the second goal, senior starting goalie Adrian Padron was taken off because he was hurt and replaced by junior Camden Williams, who played the rest of the game.
In the 55th, 63rd, and 77th minutes, the Cavaliers scored goals to make the game safer.
The Raiders (1-7, 0-1 SAC) play another league game on the road at Pinecrest High School (4-2, 0-0 SAC) on Wednesday. At 7 p.m., they will try to end their losing run.
JV Raiders pick up win
The Richmond junior varsity boys’ soccer team won its first conference game on Monday at Southern Lee.
The JV Cavaliers lost to the JV Raiders 4-1.
The JV Raiders scored three goals in a row to win the game after the first half ended with a tie score of 1-1.
Bryan Mendoza (2), Jaevon Littlejohn, and Kerick Hairston, all rookies, found the net.
It was Hairston and freshman Martin Lopez who each had an assist. It was freshman Allen Franco who had two assists.
Head coach Bennie Howard said, “We played well. We ran some through balls and made good passes.” “We had 13 shots to 4 for them, and everyone played.” Also, all three of our keepers.
The JV Raiders (3-4-1, 1-0 SAC) play at Pinecrest on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
