People who retired before this date and started getting Social Security benefits will not be able to get the next three payments in September

People who are retired will get three more Social Security payments in September. Whether you can get a new retirement benefit this month or not will depend on your birthday and two other important signs.

As an example, you can’t get the three upcoming monthly payouts if you started getting Social Security retirement benefits before May 1997. People who get SSI in addition to their retirement payments are also not eligible.

Eligibility for the remaining Social Security payments in September

If you started getting Social Security after April 30, 1997, your next payment will come in 4, 11, or 18 days. That means the money will be sent to your bank account on September 2, 3, or 4.

When retirees will get their money in September:

  • Retirement benefit payment on September 11: recipients whose birthday is from 1-10
  • Retirement benefit payment on September 18: beneficiaries who were born after the 10th but before the 21st
  • Retirement benefit payment on September 25:  retirees whose birth date is from 21-31

So, if you started getting Social Security benefits before May 1997, your next payment will come on October 3, 2024. But there will be changes to the one in November, and you will be told about them ahead of time.

Social Security direct deposit and check amounts for September

Most retirees will get about $1,919 a month in September. In August, that was the most recent news from the Social Security Administration. In general, checks or direct payments don’t change a lot.

If you are eligible for an average salary, you can expect the same amount. Rich people should expect a lot more. You can get up to $4,873 if you worked for 35 years, made the maximum amount of tax, and filed your taxes when you were 70.

On October 1, 2024, adults with low incomes may also get Supplemental Security Income. Up to $943 can be sent to them by check or direct payment from SSI.
