North Carolina is on high alert for a tropical storm by Friday

Wilmington, NC – The coast of North Carolina is getting ready for Tropical Cyclone Nine, which is expected to hit Thursday night or Friday and bring heavy rain, flooding, and strong winds.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) says that Wilmington and the Outer Banks will get several inches of rain and wind gusts of up to 50 mph. Flooding along the coast is a big problem, especially along U.S. Route 17.

Residents are being asked to keep outdoor items safe, pay attention to flood warnings, and stay home if they don’t have to be there. The area’s emergency services are getting ready for possible rescues and road closures.

People who live in low-lying places should be ready to leave if the weather gets worse over the weekend, according to the NHC.
