North Carolina high school football player passes away after falling

There was a report on HighSchoolOT.com that Mailk Mebane, a football player at Cummings High School, passed away while going to practice.

The report said that Mebane, a 10th grader at Cummings, was helped by an athletic trainer who performed CPR. He was then taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead there.

The story says that the Alamance-Burlington School System made a statement about Mebane’s death.

“This terrible loss breaks our hearts as a district and as a school community.” Malik Mebane went to school, played sports, and lived in our neighborhood. It is important to our school district that we help our kids deal with and process their grief.

On staff at school, we have counselors and other people who can help kids through this tough time. We want to thank the community for all the love and support they have shown for the school and our kids. We will continue to think of Malik’s family and friends.
