Lottery officials say that the unknown winner who bought a $1.13 billion Mega Millions ticket at a booze store in New Jersey earlier this year still hasn’t claimed the prize six months after hitting the state’s largest jackpot ever.
The would-be billionaire bought the ticket at a ShopRite liquor store in Neptune Township on March 26. He or she only has six more months to claim the huge payout.
In the event that no one claims the prize, which is $536.6 million in cash, the jackpot money will be split among the 45 states that play Mega Millions, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. According to NJ.com.
Lottery officials said they will put up signs in the Route 66 booze store to try to find the person who has the winning ticket.
The winner only bought one ticket and chose the numbers by hand instead of using a quick pick choice that was made automatically.
Lucky numbers were 7, 11, 22, 29, and 38, and the gold Mega ball was 4.
After 31 drawings in a row, the jackpot grew to over a billion dollars. It is the fifth biggest jackpot in US history.
In New Jersey, lottery winners can stay anonymous, but if they win more than $600, they have to tell the lotto officials who they are in order to get their money.
No big jackpot winner from more than one state has ever failed to claim their prize in New Jersey.
The ShopRite Liquor shop owners won $30,000 for selling the winning ticket. At a press conference, they said they would give the money to charity.
