RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina gave away free car seats on Monday to start Child Passenger Safety Week 2024.
At the Safe Kids NC, Governor’s Highway Safety Program, and State Farm event at Apex’s Beaver Creek Commons, more than 50 child safety seats were given to families in need.
Mark Ezzell, who runs the N.C. Governor’s Highway Safety Program, said, “Child Passenger Safety Week is about making people aware and getting them to act.” “This event is a great chance for families to get help setting up their child’s seat.” Every seat that is installed correctly brings us one step closer to avoiding terrible accidents.
People who were there were also shown how to properly place a car seat. The North Carolina Department of Transportation says that installing car seats correctly can cut the risk of fatal injuries in babies by 71% and in children by 54%.
Brian Taylor, the state fire chief of North Carolina, said, “Installing child safety seats correctly is one of the most important things we can do to keep our kids safe on the road.”
“We are committed to teaching families about how important it is to keep their children safe in the car and helping them make sure their seats are installed correctly.”
