Some seniors will get their Social Security payment on September 3, 2024, while others will have to wait longer. That’s the case for seniors who can’t get both retirement and SSI payments at the same time.
But they’re not the only ones like this. People over 65 who started getting Social Security after April 30, 1997, will also get paid later than those who get paid on the third.

Can retirees who get Social Security on September 25 get an average payment?
It will depend on how much you worked, how much you earned, and how many tax returns you filed in the past. In other words, some seniors may get $1,919 a year, while others may get a lot less and a few a lot more.
In fact, the biggest Social Security retirement payment in September will be $4,873. In that case, you could file at age 70 if you worked for 35 years and got the same amount of money in benefits and contributions.
In 2024, the most a senior can get is $2,710 if they file at age 62, and up to $3,822 if they file at Full Retirement Age. People who are excited about the 2025 COLA raise should know that it won’t come until January 2025. The most recent guess from the Senior Citizens League is only 2.57%, which is 2.6%.
