Monday was a holiday for many local school districts and e-learning

Several school districts in North Carolina said they will not have class or will have a remote learning day on Monday, September 30, because of bad weather and power cuts in Helene.

Schools closed for students:

  • Alexander County Schools
  • Ashe County Schools (closed all week)
  • Avery County Schools (closed Monday and Tuesday)
  • Burke County Schools (closed Monday thru Wednesday)
  • Caldwell County Schools
  • Catawba County Schools
    • Hickory Schools
    • Newton-Conover City Schools (Kid connection open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.)
  • Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
  • Cleveland County Schools
  • Watauga County Schools (closed all week)
  • Chester County, S.C. Schools
  • York County District 1 (York)
  • York County District 2 (Clover)
  • York County District 3 (Rock Hill)

Schools with an e-learning day:

  • Gaston County Schools
  • Iredell-Statesville Schools

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

  • App State: Closed all week
  • Caldwell Community College and Tech. Institute: Closed Monday and Tuesday
  • Catawba Valley Community College: No Classes Monday
  • Cleveland Community College: Closed Monday and Tuesday
  • Gardner-Webb University: Closed Monday
  • Lees-McRae College: Closed all week
  • Lenoir-Rhyne University: No Classes Monday
  • Western Piedmont Community College: No Classes All Week
  • Winthrop University: No Classes Monday and Tuesday

Most school districts let teachers choose not to work that day if they have power and/or it’s safe for them to drive.

Officials at the school say they will keep an eye on the weather across the county to see if any more delays or closures are needed for the rest of the week.
