September 9, 2024, Schaumburg, Illinois (PRNewswire) — The Emergency Nurses Association has chosen Dustin Bass, DNP, MHA, RN, CEN, NEA-BC, from North Carolina as its president-elect for 2025.

Bass is the secretary and treasurer for the ENA and has been on the Board of Directors since 2021. Bass will be president of ENA in 2026, after his year as president-elect.

Bass is excited to use his global experiences and contacts as president to support projects that give emergency nurses more power, improve patient care, and raise the status of emergency nursing.

“I’m all about emergency nursing in every way.” “It’s not just a job for me; it’s who I am,” Bass said. “As president-elect, I want to raise the voice of all of our members and bring it to the table so that we have a diverse and inclusive place where we can continue to advance our profession and move forward together.”

Bass has made a name for himself as an emergency nurse in just 14 years. He was chosen to be in the first class of 20 Under 40 by ENA Connection and was named a Young Professional Voice by the American Organization for Nursing Leadership.

Bass plans to bring his knowledge, passion, and dedication to his new job as president-elect. He has been in a number of leadership positions within ENA before, including chapter president and state president.

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he co-chaired ENA’s meeting Education Planning Committee and helped plan the group’s first fully virtual annual meeting. He also reads and comments on papers for the Journal of Emergency Nursing all the time.

He also has a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Healthcare Leadership, Systems, and Policy from Yale University, where he was named the top student and presented his doctoral project, “Reducing unnecessary ED visits through targeted patient care navigation for ED overutilizers.”

“I recognize the pivotal role ENA plays in advocacy, education, networking and research, as well as how it is, and will shape, the everchanging healthcare landscape,” Bass said. “I’m excited to be part of that and help grow our membership and exposure.”
