There won’t be a discussion for a well-known state race.
Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson wrote on X on Tuesday morning that his team has offered “multiple” dates for a possible debate against Attorney General Josh Stein, who is running against him for governor of North Carolina as a Democrat. Stein’s campaign, however, says the debate won’t happen.
Each is trying to get more votes than the other to become governor after Roy Cooper’s term ends.
Polls have mostly shown that Attorney General Stein is ahead, with some showing a lead of more than 10% for Stein.
“The campaign of my opponent is trying to bring me down with millions of dollars worth of false TV ads that were paid for by liberal billionaires and left-wing special interests.” If I want to make the case for a better future for NC, I won’t let that stop me.
So that voters can make up their own minds, my team has offered several times for my opponent to debate me. Will @JoshStein_ agree to challenge me? That’s the question. Robinson put a message on his X account.
For Josh Stein in North Carolina, Kate Frauenfelder said, “Mark Robinson has spent his whole public life spreading hate, lying about his record, and dangerous and false conspiracy theories.” We will not take part in a discussion because it would only give him more credibility and give his sick and dangerous speech a place to be heard.
She also said Stein was “accessible during the campaign” and that they would be setting up one-on-one interviews with different news sites before the election.
Robinson’s campaign spokesman, Michael Lonergan, told Spectrum that they had given dates and are now “waiting for Josh Stein to commit.” They have also talked to other news outlets.
While running for the Republican nomination, Robinson did not face his opponents.
These past few days, candidates in the North Carolina State Superintendent race, which has also gotten a lot of attention across the country, also took to the debate stage.
