January 2025 Will See First Increased Social Security Check - Official Dates Announced

Awaiting confirmation of the official new Social Security check increase for 2025 are more than 70 million recipients. The new raise check will be issued in January in accordance with the Social Security payment schedule for 2025.

According to the Social Security Administration. But, the official cost of living adjustment (COLA) rise should be made public by the Bureau of Labor Statistics the next month before the payment amounts are finally known.

The Senior Citizens League (TSCL) has made some estimates, while we still don’t have the final number, indicating that the COLA increase may range from 2.73 to 3.2%. Find out more about the recently confirmed payment dates for the upcoming year, as well as the estimated payment amounts for each beneficiary, if you are eligible for Social Security benefits.

First increased check from Social Security in January 2025

The federal agency is in charge of delivering five sets of payments every month. The first two payments are made to beneficiaries of the Retirement, Survivor, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs on the first and third days of each month.

Subsequently, on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays of each month, the SSA provides RSDI participants with three additional rounds of benefits, contingent upon the date of birth of each beneficiary.

The Social Security payment schedule states that because January 1st is a federal holiday, SSI beneficiaries will receive their benefits on Tuesday, December 31st, rather than on January 1st.

However, because February 1st occurs on a weekend, the Social Security Administration will reschedule the payment for Friday, January 31st. Even though they won’t receive their monthly benefits in January, SSI members will receive an early payment from the February payments.

Apart from this slight deviation from the usual plan, pensioners, survivors, and handicapped people will still get their monthly benefits on the third of the month for as long as they applied for benefits prior to May 1997. Social Security benefits will be distributed to those who applied after that date in a phased fashion based on their birthdate.

How much money will the Social Security Administration pay to all its beneficiaries in 2025?

Age of beneficiaries, employment history, contributions made while employed, and the type of disability—specifically for those seeking to be eligible for the SSDI program—all have an impact on Social Security benefits.

Once a beneficiary is eligible for the program, the SSA will calculate their monthly payment amount depending on their individual circumstances. However, because the cost of living adjustment (COLA) is increasing and helps beneficiaries keep up with inflation, the benefit’s value will change every year.

We would like to share with you the amount that Social Security payments would increase, taking into account a 2.73% increase in monthly benefits, as the actual COLA increase will not be announced until October.

Please remember, however, that this is merely an estimate of the future growth in Social Security benefits; the actual percentage and, consequently, the amounts paid, may differ.
