Thursday is going to have a mix of scattered showers and thunderstorms. On Friday, rain and wind will hit many places because of the remains of Hurricane Helene.
We might get a few showers and thunderstorms on Thursday because a front has stopped along the line between North Carolina and Tennessee. It’s going to rain a lot in the mountains and slopes. In general, it will rain less in the Piedmont. The highs will be around 70 degrees. There is a 50% chance that it will rain.
Thursday night, Hurricane Helene will hit land in the Florida panhandle. The system will quickly move across Georgia. By Friday morning, it will have weakened into a tropical storm. Heavy rain will fall over a large part of the Piedmont overnight Thursday into Friday morning.
At this time, the wind will also pick up. Wind gusts of 30 to 40 mph will be here by Friday morning. Friday, Helene will continue to weaken and fade away over Kentucky and Tennessee during the day. Heavy rain, and maybe even thunderstorms, will move across the Piedmont.
After lunch on Friday, the heavy rain will stop. It’s possible to flood. Along with the risk of flooding, Friday could also see short, spin-up storms. Along the mountains and slopes, it will rain anywhere from 1.5 inches to 6 inches.
In some places across the mountains, it could rain more than usual. There were gusts of up to 45 mph of wind. Some people may lose power on Friday. The high temperature will be around 80 degrees.
It will get better on Saturday, when highs will be around 80 degrees. There is a 25% chance that it will rain.
Things that are left over from Helene will leave Kentucky and Tennessee on Sunday and move into the Piedmont. It might rain a little here and there, but the highs will be in the upper 70s. There is a 40% chance that it will rain.
On Monday, it will rain all day. The low will be in the lower 60s and the high will be in the middle 70s. There is a 40% chance that it will rain.
Look for partly cloudy skies on Tuesday. Lows will be in the lower 60s and highs will be in the middle 70s. There is a 25% chance that it will rain.
This Wednesday, the weather will be mostly sunny, and the highs will be in the middle 70s.
