After looking into attempted carjackings over the weekend, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office searched and seized items from several homes in St. Mary’s County today with help from the Emergency Services Teams of the Calvert and Charles County Sheriff’s Offices. Police arrested four male suspects between the ages of 15 and 17 and charged them with planning to rob a car.
During the execution of a search warrant at one residence, deputies found two guns: a Taurus G2c with missing serial numbers that was chambered for a 9mm round and had a magazine with two rounds in it; and a Glock Model 19 that had a “switch” attached to it that turned it from semi-automatic to fully automatic.
The Glock was filled with a longer magazine that held 21 rounds. Deputies also took a scale, about 1614 pills they thought were fentanyl, six bags of suspected cannabis that were each separately wrapped.
The teenager, who was 17, was charged as an adult with 11 crimes. These included two counts of CDS: possession with intent to distribute; two counts of use of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime; two counts of CDS: possession of a large amount; two counts of CDS: possession – not cannabis; two counts of possession of a regulated firearm by a person under 21; illegal possession of ammunition; and possession of a machine gun.
Sheriff Steve Hall said, “The speed with which these search warrants were carried out and the weapons and drugs that were found show how important it is for our deputies to keep St. Mary’s County safe.” We will never give up on our promise to hold those responsible for endangering the safety of our community.
Law enforcement can’t publicly name a juvenile, even if the juvenile is being charged as an adult. This is because the juvenile’s identity is protected by the law during the judicial process.
