RALEIGH, North Carolina — JD Vance, the Republican candidate for vice president, held his first rally by himself on Wednesday in North Carolina. He talked a lot about immigrants, inflation, and how expensive housing is.
The campaign trail in the Tar Heel State is getting hot. There are less than 50 days left until Election Day and less than a month until early voters can cast their votes.
There have been a lot of protests like this one in the last week, with Democrats and Republicans both running for the state’s 16 electoral votes. A gathering for Vice President Kamala Harris was held last week in Greensboro.
The Democratic candidate for vice president, Gov. Tim Walz, held a rally in Asheville on Tuesday. On Saturday, former President Donald Trump will hold a rally in Wilmington.
Wednesday was Vance’s first trip to the state capital. He held a gathering at Union Station that had been planned for August but had to be moved. There were a lot of supporters; people were lined up outside the station hours before the vice presidential choice took the stage.
After his opening remarks, Vance started to talk to the very full crowd about Harris’ plans for making energy in the United States.
There are people who are hurt when the vice president goes to war with American energy makers and seems to hate them. It’s not just bad for the people who make American energy.
There are other people who have to pay more because of it too. That’s for sure what it does. Some of the worst people in the world are getting rich, which gives them power, Vance said.
He said that his plan and the plan of former President Donald Trump was to “drill baby, drill.” They want to bring more industry and farming back to the United States.
“Our plan is very simple: make more things in the United States of America, grow more food in the United States of America, and create jobs for Americans.” “That is the way to both prosperity and safety for the whole country,” Vance said.
He also talked about illegal immigration, which he said has made many things more expensive in the states, like taxes, and brought drugs and crime into the country.
“This is our message to the drug cartels that bring tonnes and tonnes of fentanyl into the country and to the illegal immigrants who have made it more expensive for Americans to live a good life.” Our word is easy to understand. “Pack your bags, because you’re going home in six months,” Vance told them.
Trump’s running mate also said that many families in North Carolina can’t afford the kind of life they could have had three years ago and blamed the Biden administration for this.
“The prices of homes are so high that young Americans can’t afford to live here in Raleigh or in some of the big cities.” It’s 56% higher because of what Kamala Harris has done.
I have three kids, so I think I speak for all parents and grandparents out there. “We want our young families to be able to afford to buy a home, which is the American dream,” Vance said.
Vance said that he used to live from pay cheque to pay cheque. He did say something about the inflation report that came out a few hours before his speech. He said that a drop of half a point would not help Americans.
