KEYS TO THE GAME: Kyle Wickersham, the quarterback for Richmond, is said to be hurt and won’t be able to play against DelState. The 6-foot-3 junior completed 20 out of 25 passes last year, gaining 242 yards and scoring two scores.
Instead, junior Cam Coleman is likely to start for the Spiders. As a rookie, he started four games and threw 12 touchdowns. It’s up to the Hornets to make the Spiders work for their points.
Last week, DSU’s defense let Wagner keep the game in hand by giving up a couple of clear big plays. Getting a steady running game is the best thing the Hornets can do on offense.
While Hornets quarterback Marqui Adams has shown he can make big plays, it’s likely that he would play better if he didn’t have to work as hard. Adams has tried to run the ball 41 times this fall, which is more than anyone else on the team.
NOTES: Richmond’s best receiver, Nick DeGennero, is also likely to be out because of a concussion. It was the Spiders’ first season with a new quarterback, and they used four different starters.
Along with Campbell and Sacred Heart, Richmond is one of only three teams this season that will play both DelState and Delaware.
On the FCS level, Nathan Wilson, a punter for DSU, is ranked 33rd in the country with 43.1 yards per kick. Next week, DelState plays its second straight CAA opponent when it goes to North Carolina for a game at Campbell at 2 p.m.
