Green places are important for city dwellers’ health because they provide a natural haven in city areas.
The World Health Organization says that green spaces are good for both mental health and ecosystems. This makes them very important in places that are getting more and more concrete.
There is less green space in many U.S. cities, but the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development says Charlotte and Raleigh are not following the trend and are keeping their green areas thriving.
With 10,980 square feet of open space per person, Charlotte is ranked #27. There are 14 parks in the city. The Green, a literary-themed park, and the McGill Rose Garden are two of the most popular with locals.
With 19,949 square feet per person, Raleigh is ranked 21st, and it is also adding more open space. The huge 308-acre Dorothea Dix Park is a feature in the middle of the city.
There are a lot of parks in the city, including Lake Johnson, Fred Fletcher, and Pullen.
Both cities are doing a lot to make sure that their residents can enjoy the health and environmental benefits of green areas. The future looks better for North Carolina’s cities because more projects are being planned.
