Social Security updates average payments for retirement, SSDI and SSI

Social Security has announced the new average payouts for July 2024, which will start in August. People who get SSDI, SSI, or retirement benefits can compare the amount they get to the average amount.

People who are about to apply for retirement, SSDI, or SSI payments may get a better idea of how much they might get. This might not be accurate, though, because your payment amount can change based on things like your work experience, filing age, or even your earnings and SSI money on hand.

SSDI and SSI average amounts

Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) pays out an average of $1,538.85 per month. Remember that if they are qualified, children or workers with disabilities can also get monthly payments from SSDI.

In general, a partner of a worker with a disability can get $421.34 a month. Most of the time, their kids can get $491.41. But what about getting SSI? Supplemental Security Income receivers get much smaller checks or direct deposits because they may be able to get other benefits that make their payment smaller. This is because Supplemental Security Income is only a supplement.

As of July 2024, everyone who gets SSI gets an average payment of $695. The average price is now less than it was in June, when it was around $700. You might get a higher or smaller average SSI payment based on your age.

  • recipients under 18 years old: average SSI payment of 805.39
  • beneficiaries aged 18-64 on SSI: average payment worth $742.70
  • 65 years old and older receiving SSI: average check or direct deposit worth $574.90

Retirement benefits, higher than SSDI

Most of the time, retirement payments are greater than SSDI. This is because having a disability can make it hard for a worker to get more work points and a higher wage. That’s why a lot of people who get Disability Insurance need to apply for SSI.

About $1,919 a month is what a retired worker gets as of July 2024. The average amount that spouses of former workers can get is $910.42. Their kids might also be able to get Social Security, and on average, they could get $892.39.

Let us not forget that normal payments are also given to survivors. The average amount that children of workers who have died can get is $1,103.54.

  • Widowed mothers and fathers: 1,284.42 dollars
  • Nondisabled widow(er)s: 1,784.31 dollars
  • Disabled widow(er)s: 928.25 dollars
  • Parents of deceased workers: 1,612.94
