Social Security is putting in private, easy-to-reach kiosks to make the check-in process better for customers

Social Security features and its benefits

Most of our local offices across the country now have new machines that make it easier than ever to check in and do business with Social Security.

Our new machines are private, simple to use without help, and always work for people who come to our offices.Social Security is putting in private, easy-to-reach kiosks to make the check-in process better for customers

Also, they follow the rules of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The general check-in process has been made better by changes made to older kiosk screens, especially for our customers who are blind or have low vision.

Social Security Kiosk features

Each kiosk features:

  • Fully accessible keypads.
  • Audio headphone jacks with free headphones that can only be used once when asked for.
  • There are braille directions on how to use the kiosk and how to report any problems with accessibility.
  • Monitors with touch screens and privacy filters.
  • Thermal printers and ticket machines that are built in.
  • Better check-in software that works with 508s.
  • Kitchen cabinets that are a certain height and width.

Our new kiosks are just one more way we’re improving the customer service experience in our offices.

Last year, we began offering Mobile Check-in Express. It allows customers to use their mobile device to scan the QR code at their local Social Security office to check in for scheduled and non-scheduled appointments.

Visitors get the following when they turn on their device’s location services and mobile notifications:

  • A digital ticket that tells them where they stand in line.
  • A message to let them know when we’re ready to help.
  • Information about where they will be interviewed.
  • An offer to take part in our survey about your thoughts.
  • It’s never been easier to check in with our new booths and Mobile Check-In Express.
