Mountain View's water turns brown when a main breaks, which forces the roads to be closed

Mountain View, California (KRON) — On Thursday afternoon, a big water main broke on Charleston and Joaquin roads, closing streets and making it possible for Mountain View residents to have water that was stained.

What PG&E calls “just the tip of the iceberg” is a recent rise in scams in Santa Clara County.
The city said that Charleston Road between Huff Avenue and Shoreline Boulevard will be closed until further notice.

At first, the water main break was reported at 1:45 p.m. After about 45 minutes, the city shut down Charleston Road and told people to find other ways and be prepared for traffic delays.

Much of Mountain View’s water system had high water flows because of the break, the city said. “Residents may be experiencing discolored water because of this.”

The city said in a statement, “If you have water that is cloudy, run the water in your home to clear it.” The city says the cloudy water is “normal in these kinds of events” and is safe to use, even though it is strange.

The city said that crews have found the break and are working to fix it as this story is being written. As of 7 p.m., no one knows when the roads will be open again.
