Last days to apply for $120 SUN Bucks through SNAP in New York and California

The application opening for the new Summer EBT program for SNAP recipients and other eligible citizens is about to close. Soon, SUN Bucks will no longer accept applications in New York and California.

Just so you know, this program gives kids in school $120 for summer food. Most people who get SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, or similar programs got it immediately. However, some people who are qualified are still not getting this SUN Bucks payment.

SUN Bucks deadline in New York

As of September 3, 2024, the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance says that people who are qualified can apply for their $120 check. Through an application in New York State, you must be able to:

  • A student must be enrolled in a school that participates in the NSLP (National School Lunch Program),
  • Income in your household must be at or below the eligibility limits for free or reduced-price school meals (185% of the federal poverty level).

Some people think they are eligible but didn’t immediately get SUN Bucks or Summer EBT in New York. They can apply online. Their website address is https://summerebt.ny.gov/en-US/. All you have to do is go there.

SUN Bucks deadline in California

The California Department of Social Services said that until August 31, 2024, you can apply for SUN Bucks if you don’t already get them. That means you only have 48 hours to do it.

CDSS says you need to fill out the Alternative Income Form if you get free or low-cost food but don’t get CalFresh (SNAP), CalWORKs, or Medi-Cal right now.

Also, you have to stay within the income limits. The income level of your family must be “certified at or below 185% of the Federal Poverty Level,” the same as in New York. It doesn’t matter if you get your card in September or August. SUN Bucks will give you $120 for each child once you are qualified.
