AYODAN – Starting July 1, Robert Lamberth will be in charge of sports at McMichael High School after being accepted by the Rockingham County School Board.
Thomas Horton quit earlier this year, and Lamberth is now in his place.
In Lamberth’s case, the apple didn’t fall very far from the tree. Robert Lamberth, Sr. was his teacher and coach for 32 years at Rockingham County High School in football, track, and wrestling.
L. Lamberth Jr. graduated from Rockingham High School in 1999. His first and second degrees were both from UNC Greensboro. He also got a degree in school management from Appalachian State University.
He taught and managed baseball, football, and wrestling at Western Guilford High School for 21 years after college. The last eight years were as associate athletics director.
Lamberth said that moving was the right thing to do.
“I love the neighborhood.” He or she said, “I’m just happy to be home because McMichael is a great place to live and has a great coaching staff.”
He said that the schools and the big battles between Rockingham, Reidsville, McMichael, and Morehead are some of the things that drew him back home.
If you’re talking about sports, all four schools are foes. In Rockingham County, I believe all four schools are excellent. Lamberth said, “I’m happy to be here at McMichael and ready to help out as much as I can. It’s a great community.”
He didn’t have much time to get ready for the 2024–2025 school year, but he said the staff made the change easy, even though there were some problems.
“Everything has gone well since I got on board.” Our school has a great leadership, coaches, and teachers who have made me feel welcome. She said, “Like I said, I feel like I’m already home, and things are going great.”
