61st Kings Mountain Art Fair, Aug. 31-Sept. 2

If you’re in Woodside, the Kings Mountain Firehouse and Community Center is where the 61st Kings Mountain Art Fair will be held from Friday, August 31, 10 a.m. to Monday, September 2, 5 p.m. More than 140 artists will be at the show. From 8 to 10:30 a.m., you can get breakfast, and from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., you can get lunch.

By holding a zero-waste event, the Kings Mountain Art Fair wants to help the community and the earth. The Kings Mountain Volunteer Fire Brigade and Kings Mountain Elementary School get money from the fair every year.

There are no pets allowed in the fair because the art on show is fragile. People in the area can walk, ride bikes, or drive to the fair. People who park along Skyline Boulevard can use a bus service. There is a fair in a coastal redwood forest that is quite high up, so people are told to dress in layers.

Recycle your electronic waste on Sept. 7

Recology San Mateo County, RethinkWaste, and the city of Menlo Park are working together to hold a free event to urge people to recycle their old electronics.

On September 7, from 9 a.m. to noon, people from Menlo Park can bring their old electronics to the City Corporation Yard at 333 Burgess Drive. There is no need to make an appointment, but you may need to show proof of residency.

People are asked to put their old electronics in the trunk of their cars and take out any personal things that are in the trunk. The vendors will come into the cars and take the electrical waste while the people inside stay in their cars.

TVs, computers, printers, monitors, wires and cords, cell phones, MP3 players, DVD players, laptops, and other similar things are all accepted.

Things that won’t be taken at this event are fans, space heaters, smoke alarms, vacuum cleaners, microwaves, and home hazardous waste. It’s also not going to accept big tools like stoves, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, ovens, or cooktops.
