Campbell police catch thieves using high-tech tools to help with their arrests using drones

The Campbell Police Department showed off the future of law enforcement in real life at a nearby Kohl’s store on a Tuesday afternoon. A man and a woman were caught stealing and were caught by both regular police and the department’s cutting edge Drone as First Responder (DFR) technology.

Around 3:15 PM, the suspects, KC Vernon Pries, 38, of Sunnyvale and Mary Jo Devera, 48, of San Jose, tried to leave the scene of the crime. Devera was caught quickly, but Pries led police on a longer chase. In the end, he hid on a private rooftop, which the DFR team’s aerial surveillance showed.

The study that followed showed how bad the two people’s crimes were. The car they left behind was full of stolen goods, burglary tools, and drug equipment. It was also a stolen car from San Jose that had “cold-plated” license plates to make it look like something else.

The suspects had been in trouble with the law before this. According to the Campbell Police Department, Pries had been arrested over 25 times since 2004 and Devera had been arrested eight times since 2001.

After that, both Pries and Devera were taken to jail and charged with many crimes, such as fighting arrest, conspiracy, retail theft, car theft, and more. Pries is also being charged with breaking the terms of his release.
