What else can thieves take from a pub in San Jose, wonders the owner? Mike Downing has been thinking about that ever since his business was broken into for the fourth time on Thursday.
Mike’s Place owner Downing claimed that thieves had broken into the establishment on several occasions and taken the safe, which held valuables and thousands of dollars.
“Our safe was right here, and they just ripped it right off the wall,” claimed the man.
A change machine was taken by thieves during the second break-in at Mike’s Place last week. Downing was forced to purchase a new one and fasten it to the ground.
A thief was seen attempting to break into the new change machine but failing on the surveillance footage from yesterday’s heist. After that, the suspect took souvenirs, including a Michael Jordan jersey.
The fact that the assailant took a collage off the wall—which reminded Downing of his time spent fighting in Vietnam—hurt him the most, though.
“I had this combat infantry badge stolen, which meant a lot to me; it means nothing to the robbers,” he stated. “It’s been a terrible month and a half, to be honest with you.”
Downing filed a police report following the initial break-in, but stated he wanted other companies to be made aware of the situation.
“I’m just disappointed. I’m getting on in age,” he remarked. “In my era, none of this stuff happened.”
