According to Money WiseArizona has given back a record $88 million in lost property to people who lived there from July 2023 to June 2024. This is a big jump from the $57 million it usually brings back every year. The boost came from the state’s efforts to get the word out about the program by sending out flyers and making other noise about it. From $1 to $1.5 million was given back.

Unclaimed property includes old bank accounts, gift cards that haven’t been used, and paychecks that haven’t been spent. People may forget these things when they move or change jobs. After three to five years, most states consider property to be abandoned. One in seven people have cash that hasn’t been claimed yet, and states hold on to a total of about $70 billion.
